Nutrition

What is wrong with simply eating right?

Food sources are no longer consistently providing the necessary levels of nutrients.  We have systematically farmed the same soils with annual monocultures for many years, depleting them of 30+ nutrients while only replacing three elements in the standard practice of fertilization.  Further, we have selectively bred our foods (fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts) for ease of mechanical harvest, longevity in transport, disease resistance, beauty on the store shelf, sweetness and flavor – but no consideration has been given to breeding the food for consistent or higher nutritional value.  The result is bigger sweeter corn kernels, beans that may be harvested by machine without bruising or breaking, tomatoes that last on the shelf for weeks, etc. However, few to none of the ‘new’ varieties have increased nutritional value – and some have become little more than water and sugar.

Food choices are sometimes less than ideal – being filled with over processed foods that are striped of their nutrient value. Processed wheat, processed sugar, and a variety of processed fats comprise much of the standard ‘modern’ diet.  These empty calories are in part responsible for cravings – since they do not satisfy the body’s needs. Artificial sweeteners, stabilizers, colors, flavors, etc. are also putting toxic elements into the system every day.

The need for nutrients is increased as a result of stress.  When under stress the supply is depleted faster than normal, and yet the stress mechanism slows or shuts down the digestive process.

A stressed, diseased or damaged digestive system is unable to consistently extract and absorb necessary nutrients from normal food sources.

Nutrition is the basic fuel that runs all of the functions of the body.  Poor fuel causes problems.  Get real advice about nutrition and supplement issues that concern you.
